Minister Eppo Bruins of Education, Culture and Science is planning a major reform of the public broadcaster. He wants to reduce the number of broadcasters from eleven to four or five 'broadcasting houses' and abolish the membership criterion of at least 100,000 members. These changes should help to reduce costs and focus more on programmes than on recruiting members. The plans still have to be approved by the Council of Ministers, but have already been positively received in a preparatory meeting. The public broadcaster must also cut 156 million euros.
