The article "The Art of the Little Stories" discusses the genesis of the screenplay for the film "Ladri di Biciclette". Cesare Zavattini, an important extra in Italian neorealism, worked with director Vittorio De Sica. Zavattini transformed Luigi Bartolini's book, in which a wealthy painter finds his stolen bicycle, into a story about the unemployed Antonio who searches in vain for his stolen bicycle in post-war Rome. This film, which won an Oscar, is considered a high point of neorealism and continues to influence screenwriters.
