The 17th Movies That Matter Festival in The Hague, running from 21-29 March, opens with the world premiere of Daan Veldhuizen's documentary The Promise. The festival will screen 98 films, including ten world premieres. The Promise examines neo-colonialism in former Dutch New Guinea and is competing in the Grand Jury Documentary Competition, the winner of which qualifies for the Academy Awards. Other notable films include Morgan Knibbe's The Garden of Earthly Delights and Sissel Morell Dargis's Balomania, which closes the festival.
