In 2024, the UK film industry experienced a year of transition, with an overall 31% increase in spend on film and high-end TV productions to £5.6bn. This was despite a worrying 22% decline in domestic spend on high-end TV productions. Large contributions came from international investment, particularly from the US. The box office continued to show positive trends, helped by the film ‘Wicked’, the highest-grossing release of 2024. Sam Taylor-Johnson’s British film ‘Back to Black’ was the top-grossing independent British film.
