Apple TV+ has signed a four-year agreement with the French government to invest 20% of its annual net revenue in France in local and European audiovisual productions. Of this investment, 70% will go to independent productions, allowing French and European creators to retain intellectual property rights. This initiative supports France’s 2021 SMAD decree and the EU directive that requires 30% of content on streaming platforms to be produced within the EU. Apple TV+ also has a deal with Canal+ to expand its reach in France.
