French films saw an 11% decline in international box office grosses in 2024, with an estimated $255 million, despite the success of 'The Count of Monte-Cristo'. In France itself, these films achieved a 44% market share, breaking a 15-year record. 'The Count of Monte-Cristo', directed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière and starring Pierre Niney, was the biggest French film export, grossing €20.7 million. Other successful export films included Justine Triet's 'Anatomy of a Fall' and Tran Anh Hung's 'The Taste of Things'. The decline in international grosses has been attributed in part to the lack of a family blockbuster and the general downward trend in the global box office.
