Variety announced its “2025 Directors to Watch” on Nov. 19, a list of 10 promising new filmmakers who have already received numerous accolades, including three Golden Globe nominations and two Independent Spirit nominations. Among the featured directors are Durga Chew-Bose, whose debut “Bonjour Tristesse” won an Emerging Artist Award at the Toronto International Film Festival; Coralie Fargeat, whose “The Substance” was notable for its gore and critique of societal expectations of women; and David Fortune, whose “Color Book” tells a story about black father-son relationships and inclusivity. Drew Hancock, of “Companion,” is being praised for his positive outlook and creative breakthrough during the COVID pandemic.
