Four film house directors and a programmer reflect on the evolution of the Dutch film screening circuit, from the competition with chains to the growing attention for audience wishes. Marjoleine van Duin (Filmhuis Gouda), Jérôme van Dam (also Filmhuis Gouda), Pien Houthoff (Lux Nijmegen), David Deprez (Lumière Maastricht) and Leendert de Jong (Filmhuis Den Haag) share their experiences and future plans. De Jong, with 38 years of service the longest, focuses on a future project about 130 years of film in The Hague. The departing leaders emphasize the changing role of film houses, from art guardians to tailor-made makers and debate drivers, and the rise of a new generation of cinephiles interested in classics and social issues.
