Filmmaker Jonathan de Jong and healthcare innovator Teun Toebes have made an impactful contribution to the conversation about dementia with their documentary 'Human Forever'. The documentary, which is the most watched human interest story in the Netherlands, aims to improve the quality of life of people with dementia worldwide by painting a more nuanced picture than the dominant narrative of loss and limitation. Despite the many obstacles within the film industry, such as financing and distribution, De Jong and Toebes have made the documentary a success through their unconventional approach and perseverance, including support from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and other ambassadors. Their work was awarded a Golden Calf for the most visited cinema film and documentary in 2024.
