The VPRO has announced that the documentary program Tegenlicht will stop in 2026. This decision was made due to a new focus on geopolitics and foreign journalism. Tegenlicht, known for its futuristic and climate activist approach, will make way for a weekly TV program and journalistic streaming series. Editor-in-chief Julia Veldman and program maker Geert Rozinga disagree with this decision and emphasize the unique value of Tegenlicht as a platform for new forms of storytelling and social involvement. The program won the Zilveren Nipkowschijf in 2005.
