The European Audiovisual Observatory (EAO) has published a study, entitled “Made in Europe – Theatrical Distribution of European Films Across the Globe 2014-2023”, by Manuel Fioroni. This study analyses the performance and availability of European films from 2014 to 2023, both domestically and internationally. The report shows an increase in the availability of European films worldwide, with more than 3,300 titles in 2023, but a decline in cinema attendance, 35% below the pre-pandemic average. French films in particular dominate European film production and attendance. In addition, European “blockbusters” have declined and animated films continue to perform well internationally.
