Mark Paul Meyer, curator and film restorer at Eye Filmmuseum, recently retired after 34 years of service. During his career, the museum transformed from a sleepy institution to a vibrant hub in Amsterdam-Noord. Originally called the Netherlands Film Museum and housed in the Vondelpark Pavilion, the museum moved to a striking new building in Amsterdam-Noord in 2012. Meyer, who studied philosophy, contributed to film preservation and restoration and helped open up the museum to a wider audience and academics. Under his influence and that of others such as Hoos Blotkamp and Peter Delpeut, the collection was opened up, more films were shown and the archive was activated.
