Orwa Nyrabia will step down as artistic director of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) after its 37th edition next summer after seven years. During his tenure, Nyrabia has guided the festival through the COVID-19 pandemic, implemented new programming, such as the Envision Competition and IDFA on Stage, and focused on gender equality and pluralism. Despite some controversy surrounding a banner that was perceived as anti-Semitic, his contribution to the festival is valued. Nyrabia, who was previously involved in the film Return to Homs and the Syrian DOX BOX festival, returns to film production and distribution.
