IDFA 2024 opens with Piotr Winiewicz’s experimental film About a Hero, which explores artificial intelligence based on a quote by Werner Herzog. The festival takes place from 14 to 24 November in Amsterdam and screens over 250 documentaries. In addition to the opening film, there are various competition programmes, including the International Competition with thirteen films and the Envision Competition. The Luminous section highlights premieres such as Edhi Alice and The Last Expedition. Frontlight focuses on resistance to oppression with films such as Toroboro and Shot the Voice of Freedom. IDFA DocLab presents innovative non-fiction and digital storytelling projects.
