Mateo Vega and Mathieu Wijdeven will present their film "Luci" at the Netherlands Film Festival 2024. The film explores the legacy of Surinamese artist GGT Rustwijk, who lived shortly after slavery and was known as a theatre maker, performer and critic of the Dutch colonial regime. Using historical locations, performances, interviews and archival material, they shed light on Rustwijk's influence in contemporary Suriname. Vega and Wijdeven aim to create a magical, intergenerational world that transcends realism, inspired by their respective interests in space and family history.
