Husam Zakaraya, a graduate of ArtEZ Zwolle, has created the animated short film REM sleep, which explores complex themes such as war and meaning in just four minutes. Inspired by his experiences as a Syrian refugee and the tragedy in Al Tadamon, Damascus, Zakaraya uses associative images to tell a universal story without specifically mentioning Syria. The Academy Award-winning film uses symbolism and music to convey deep emotions. Emphasizing the power of limited time to provide a focused experience, Zakaraya uses Komiku's song 'Tension' to create the desired atmosphere.
