The 81st Venice Film Festival, which takes place from August 28 to September 7, has announced 21 films competing for the Golden Lion. Among the films selected is Pedro Almodóvar's "The Room Next Door," starring Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore and John Turturro. Other entries include three French films by debut directors, several Italian productions including “Campo di battaglia” by Gianni Amelio and “Queer” by Luca Guadagnino, and international contributions such as “Harvest” by Athina Rachel Tsangari and “April” by Dea Kulumbegashvili. The festival opener is "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" by Tim Burton, and "L'orto americano" by Pupi Avati will close the festival. In addition to competition films, there are also non-competitive entries, including fiction, non-fiction and series.
