BALDR Film's Frank Hoeve explains the company's involvement in four minority co-productions selected for the Karlovy Vary film festival in the Czech Republic, a prominent celebration of international author cinema. Among the selected films is “Banzo” by Portuguese director Margarida Cardoso, which is making its international premiere. The film, supported by the Dutch Film Fund, is set on Sao Tomé and deals with the theme of deep nostalgia among slaves. Other films include Zhengfan Yang's “Stranger,” an exploration of isolation and loneliness, Raha Amirfazlia and Alireza Ghasemi's “In the Land of Brothers,” about an Afghan refugee family in Iran, and Payal Kapadia's “All We Imagine as Light,” an ode to those influenced by Mumbai.
