During the Cannes Film Festival, South Africa and the Netherlands renewed their Thuthuka collaboration, an initiative launched in 2021 to encourage co-productions between the two countries. State Secretary for Culture and Media Fleur Gräper-van Koolwijk emphasized the importance of diversity in film productions. Thuthuka offers script development contributions to four projects (two from each country) every year. In addition, one project each year receives a realization contribution, with "Brace Yourself" by Thati Pele being the first selected. The latest selections, including “Third Wheel” and “Rain Animals,” were also announced, as well as a project for Cannes Docs Spotlight, “Karatara – Place of Deep Shadows.”
