Art and culture are hardly mentioned in the new coalition agreement, but the sector is certainly affected by some measures. The Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO) must make €100 million in cuts from 2026. The low VAT rate for cultural goods and services will be increased from 9% to 21%, but cinema tickets will remain excluded. It is positive that the reduction in the SME profit exemption is being reversed. However, the livelihoods of 400,000 cultural professionals are under pressure, partly due to the limitation of the donation deduction and the increase in the gambling tax, which reduces financial support for culture.
