Supermarket Aldi has replaced actor Diederik Ebbinge, known from the TV series De Luizen Moeder, with an artificial intelligence (AI) generated voice in their advertisements. This move marks a growing trend of using AI in advertising messages. The new AI voice was created from voice shooting of ten female Aldi employees. Aldi and the advertising agency Joe Public say this saves costs and time and is better suited to the brand. Ebbinge expresses his concerns about the impact on the cultural sector and the earnings of actors. However, experts see growing opportunities for AI in marketing, despite the unique advantages of human actors.
