The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, taking place from May 14 to 25, promises an exciting competition with 19 films competing for the Palme d'Or. The participants include two former winners: Francis Ford Coppola with "Megalopolis" and Jacques Audiard with "Emilia Perez". In addition, well-known names such as David Cronenberg, Paolo Sorrentino and Jia Zhangke return, along with six newcomers including Coralie Fargeat with "The Substance". Europe dominates the line-up with 12 filmmakers, while North America, Asia and South America are also represented. What is striking is the absence of African filmmakers and the limited representation of female directors, which may provoke reactions. George Lucas receives an honorary Palme d'Or during the closing ceremony.
