Since June 7, 2022, there has been a legal transparency obligation in the Netherlands for everyone in the exploitation chain of a work, intended to give creators such as writers insight into the income, costs and profits of their works. However, the reality appears to be different: producers do not share extras, partly because the law does not link sanctions to non-compliance. This leads to frustration among writers, who often do not insist on compliance for fear of blacklisting. Although the NPO offers a portal for inspection, this process is time-consuming and inefficient.
