Director Steve McQueen and writer Bianca Stigter collaborated on the documentary The Occupied City. The film, based on Stigter's book, shows the life of Jewish Amsterdammers during the Second World War and at the same time reflects on the present. McQueen deliberately does not use archive material, but films current locations and residents.
