The VPRO Documentary Prize 2023 has been awarded to the documentary Oaia Neagra by director Renee Schräder. The film is about the oppressiveness of an Orthodox Christian environment in the Romanian countryside. The jury praised the film for its diary-like way of working and for making the oppression palpable. The prize consists of 5,000 euros for the director.
