Director Yorgos Lanthimos has won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival with his film Poor Things. The steampunk, sex-positive version of Barbie made a big impression on the public. The film is set in a Frankenstein version of the interwar period and follows a female version of Kaspar Hauser. In the Venice Immersive section, no fewer than two of the three prizes went to Dutch projects. The program's top prize for VR and immersive works went, quite rightly, to the moving existential Songs for a Passerby by Celine Daemen.
