Documentary filmmaker Leonard Retel Helmrich passed away on July 15 at the age of 63. He was a unique filmmaker and twice won the prize for best film at IDFA. Retel Helmrich was known for his inventive way of filming, using homemade equipment. His films were dynamic and conveyed the sense of connection between events.
