The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that it will expand the requirements for a film's theatrical release to qualify for the Best Picture Oscar starting in 2024. This has sparked a lot of buzz in Hollywood. The new requirements seem to be aimed mostly at streaming services like Amazon, Apple, Hulu, and Netflix, but it seems that just about any film from a streamer that was once a serious best picture contender would have met the new requirements.
