In the United States, 11,500 Writers Guild of America (WGA) writers have gone on strike at major film studios such as Sony, Paramount, Netflix, Disney, Fox, Amazon, CBS, Universal and Warner Bros. The strike started on May 2, 2023 and at stake is the new Minimum Basic Agreement between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The writers demonstrate daily at the studios and have the support of the Teamsters union. Hit series like Stranger Things and the new Game of Thrones spin-off have already been postponed indefinitely.
