Hollywood's Writers Guild has launched a strike by some 11,000 film and TV writers. They stop working because their wages have fallen enormously since the rise of streaming platforms. The writers want to put pressure on the big studios to get their wages back up. The most recent contract between the studios and the writers' unions expired on Monday, leaving the door open for new negotiations. The writers argue mainly in Los Angeles and New York, where most of them are employed.
