The vote on the amendment to the 2008 Media Act has been postponed to next Tuesday. The law obliges video streamers to invest 4.5% of their annual turnover in Dutch cultural audiovisual productions. The video streamers have lobbied heavily in recent months to make this law toothless. The motions of the VVD and the CDA strongly weaken the legislative amendment and make implementation impossible. It is precisely drama and documentary that have limited financing options in the Netherlands and this amendment to the law would give the sector an enormous boost.
