Movies seem to be getting longer, but is that the only reason why some films are perceived as too long? The screenplay also plays a role. For example, the film Sátántangó by director Béla Tarr lasts no less than 7.5 hours, while the film Amra Ekta Cinema Banabo from Bangladesh even lasts more than 21 hours. Nevertheless, both films were appreciated at international festivals. The concept of 'running time' is being debated and while films of close to three hours are not exceptional, many popular blockbusters are remarkably long.
