Jamie Lee Curtis won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and Branden Fraser took home Best Actor in The Whale. Ruth E. Carter won the Academy Award for Best Costume, becoming the first black woman to win two Oscars. Im Westen Nichts Neues won the prize for best international film.
