In Buurman Abdi, the Somali refugee Abdiwahab Ali reenacts his life colored by war and violence with his workshop neighbor Douwe Dijkstra, who is a filmmaker. In Douwe's special effect studio they playfully search for forms to tell a story about a destructive past and a creative present. Using scale models and green screen shots, they film Abdi's childhood memories from his hometown of Mogadishu. Together they also investigate Abdi's criminal past in the Netherlands. In 2020, director Douwe Dijkstra received a realization contribution from Teledoc Campus to make his documentary Buurman Abdi.
