Two weeks after the Golden Globes were handed out (read news), the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards confirmed some of the takes prompted by the newly revamped awards given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including the love for one of the two main winners, Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin [+]. A bit more surprisingly, Edward Berger's German-language, Netflix-produced war drama All Quiet on the Western Front, which had already been nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, managed to get the same amount of love. And even more surprisingly, Ruben Östlund's second Palme d'Or winner, Triangle of Sadness, got nominations in the three main categories, making this a banner year for European cinema.
