Yazan Rabee fled Syria, where as a young student he participated in the demonstrations against Assad, and has been in the Netherlands since the end of 2016, where he studied film at the St. Joost Academy in Breda. In addition to Beyond the Sun, his short film Back was also shown at the Dutch Film Festival:
