Margot Schaap (1986) graduated six years ago with Een Dag in 't Jaar, a low-budget film that was largely created from improvisation. Now she makes her official debut as a feature screenwriter and director with Quicksand, an intimate portrait of a twisted mother-daughter relationship. Once again, improvisation was a big part of the creative process, this time during the writing: “I wanted to use the input of actors, but still get precision in it.”
