Director Thys Ockersen was very active as a journalist for Skoop and Het Parool in the 1970s. During that time he visited many film sets and spoke with big names such as John Wayne, Dennis Hopper, Donald Sutherland and Jerry Lewis. Ockersen even became friends with directors Don Siegel and Sam Fuller and would make the film Sam Fuller and the Big Red One about the latter.
