Bero Beyer starts at the Film Fund at a time when there is a lot of criticism of Dutch film policy. A survey among filmmakers conducted early this year by the Filmmakers Initiative shows enormous dissatisfaction, especially with the Film Fund. It is felt that the Film Fund restricts the artistic freedom of filmmakers, resulting in predictable and substandard format films, such as the overkill of rom-coms. What Beyer thinks of the criticism? “I have read it and think it is a serious issue that filmmakers are not satisfied. But I'm not going to tar everything with the same brush. Excellent films are also made by Dutch filmmakers. Such as Dirty God by Sacha Polak, with which we opened the festival this year, and Take Me Somewhere Nice by Ena Sendijarevic.”
