Three Dutch people have been invited to become members of the Academy, the organization that annually awards the Oscars, the most important film awards in the world. This is evident from the list of 842 new names that the Academy published on Monday. As executive vice president of Universal Pictures International, Niels Swinkels is partly responsible for the international distribution policy of one of the largest Hollywood studios. In the past, Swinkels was, among other things, managing director of Independent Films in the Netherlands. In that capacity he released, among other things, Shouf shouf habibi! and a number of films by producer Johan Nijenhuis.
