The Dutch youth film Fighting Girl was named the best European film of the year by the Young Audience Award of the European Film Academy on Sunday. Director Johan Timmers was present in the German town of Erfurt to receive the award, producer The Film Kitchen announced. The Young Audience Award is declared annually by a youth jury from 34 countries and 55 cities throughout Europe. They cast their votes on a number of nominated films. Fighting girl won by a wide margin.
