Producer David Picker, who, among other things, bought the film rights to Ian Fleming's James Bond books and initiated the spy epic, has died at the age of 87. This is reported by The Hollywood Reporter. It was also Picker who did everything he could to get Scottish actor Sean Connery to play the leading role in the first James Bond film Dr. Two years later, Picker convinced the management of United Artist Recordings to make a low-budget documentary about a young British band he liked. This resulted in the Richard Lester-directed Beatles film A Hard Day's Night.
