Director Pieter Verhoeff passed away last night at the age of 81. His family announced this. Verhoeff made films and documentaries and was also involved in TV programs such as Kenmerk and Jiskefet. Verhoeff is of Frisian descent and this was reflected in his work. He made, among other things, the three-part series De Vuurtoren (1994) about the life of a boy in a Frisian fishing village. He also filmed the life of Sjoukje Bokma de Boer in the film Nynke, who wrote children's books under the pseudonym Nienke van Hichtum and was married to politician and poet Pieter Jelles Troelstra.
