A Moscow court has converted the house arrest of film and theater director Kirill Serebrennikov, which has been in force since August 2017, into an travel ban. This was less than six days after a lower authority extended Serebrennikov's house arrest by three months. Serebrennikov is accused of embezzling more than one million euros in subsidy money intended for the Platforma theater project. It is widely believed that this case, popularly called 'the Theater Case', is politically motivated. The house arrest of Serebrennikov's co-suspects Sofia Apfelbaum and Yury Itin was also changed today to an exit ban.
