Flemish films attracted more than 2 million visitors to the cinema in 2018, or an increase of 38 percent compared to the previous year. The Flemish Audiovisual Fund (VAF), the institution that provides approximately 16 million euros in subsidies annually for the production of films, TV series and games, is requesting more resources from the Flemish government. That money should be spent on screenwriters and young, talented filmmakers who are left out in the cold today. Director Erwin Provoost gave this message on Wednesday at the presentation of the VAF's annual report.
