The 48th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) starts on Wednesday with Polak's film Dirty God. Three days later the film screens at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in the United States, a first for a Dutch film. The film is about a young woman who has to rebuild her life after becoming the victim of an acid attack. “It was important to me that it would be about the aftermath of such an event, and that you would not see the attack itself,” says Polak. Polak has considered shooting the film in the Netherlands. "But those hydrochloric acid attacks really mainly take place in London, so it would be a completely different story."
