Film lovers and critics have been tripping over each other in recent weeks in their enthusiasm for the past year of cinema. According to Volkskrant film editor Bor Beekman, the film harvest was so good that the newspaper could easily have compiled a top 50 instead of a top 25 best films. And the chief film scribe of NRC Handelsblad, Coen van Zwol, tweeted: “2018 was a brilliant film year”.
