Producer Frans van Gestel and director Joram Lürsen, makers of the hit films Alles is Liefde and Alles is Familie, have canceled their membership of the brand new Dutch Academy For Film. They did this because their feature film Public Works, nominated last year for ten Golden Calves, did not receive a single nomination. Van Gestel reports this in the Volkskrant. He does not want to provide any further explanation for his decision: "That is too finicky." He states that he is not necessarily against the Academy system, which was introduced three years ago. "It is just as good or bad as a jury system. It is important that the festival stands for Dutch film and penetrates deep into the provinces. I think it can be better."
