With the ramping up of film production and the rapid expansion of cinema halls, it appears that the Chinese box office will be larger than that of the United States, not in 2018 but already in 2017, the largest cinema market in the world to date. Mike Ellis, head of the Asia/Pacific department of the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), made this announcement at a major film conference, according to the LA Times. Previous expectations were that this would not happen until 2018 or later.
