The 'plasmodial slime mold' is the black sheep of biology. Although there are thousands of different types of slime molds, we know very little about this peculiar organism. We now know that slime molds are able to survive for a long time in a hostile environment, quietly waiting for the moment when they can flourish again, but little is known about their function.
